Consultation has concluded
On 20 February 2017 the inquiry released a Background and Issues Paper to facilitate the first stage of consultation with Territorians.
The first half of the paper provides background information within the Northern Territory context, such as the locations of prospective shale gas reservoirs and an overview of the regulatory framework for hydraulic fracturing and the petroleum industry.
The second half of the paper outlines the potential risks of hydraulic fracturing and associated activities under the following nine themes:
Water
Land
Air
Public Health
Aboriginal people and their culture
Social
Economic
Land access
Regulatory Framework.
How you can have your say
The inquiry welcomes feedback on the issues outlined in the paper. Closing date for feedback is 30 April 2017. The panel would like to know if you think the risks and issues identified are appropriate for the panel to consider during the course of the inquiry, or if there are issues which should or should not be considered.
The inquiry will visit 15 locations across the Northern Territory in March 2017. Go to the Fracking Inquiry website for more information or to register for a formal meeting or community meetings.
What will happen when feedback has been collected
Closing date for feedback is 30 April 2017. Comments and information received will be included in an interim report. The interim report will be released for public comment mid 2017.
