What is the Tracy Village Sporting Precinct Master Plan?

A comprehensive master plan is being developed to guide the future of the Tracy Village Sporting Precinct in Lyons. The master plan aims to modernise and enhance the precinct to better serve the community and support multiple sporting codes.

Why is the redevelopment happening now?

The precinct has grown significantly since it was originally established post Cyclone Tracy. With increasing demand for quality sporting infrastructure, there is a need to upgrade and reconfigure the facilities to support current and future users.

Who is involved in developing the master plan?

Ashford Lamaya Architects (ALA) and D&P Management have been engaged to lead the design and planning process.

How much funding has been committed to the project?

The Northern Territory and Australia Governments are jointly funding stage 1 of the project.

    • the Northern Territory Government has committed $3 million to support Stage 1 of the redevelopment.
    • the Australian Government has committed $1.3 million towards construction of gender inclusive changerooms for the Hellenic Athletic Club and an additional $3 million towards the redevelopment.

What are the stages of the redevelopment?

    Stage 1:

    • master planning for the precinct and future costings
    • establishment of new playing fields and lighting
    • new clubhouse and gender inclusive changerooms for Hellenic Athletic Club
    • upgrades to irrigation and power infrastructure
    • reconfiguration of existing baseball and softball facilities (without impacting current use).

    Stage 2:

    • upgrades to AFL and cricket facilities
    • improved playing surfaces
    • gender-inclusive, all-abilities changerooms
    • enhanced lighting and support infrastructure.

    Stage 3:

    • investigating the feasibility and construction of undercover netball and basketball facilities
    • parking and landscaping.

Will any sports be displaced during the redevelopment?

No. The redevelopment will be designed to enhance all sporting facilities and accommodate growth, not reduce existing use. A reconfiguration and upgrade of baseball and softball fields have been identified as part of stage 1 to accommodate football facilities. Upgrades to baseball and softball fields will be managed in a way that ensures continued access.

    What’s planned for football (soccer)?

A home ground will be established for the Hellenic Athletic Club, including new fields, lighting, a clubhouse, and changerooms. Football facilities will be developed while respecting the space needs of other sports.

How will this benefit AFL and cricket users?

The project will include improved playing surfaces, competition standard lighting and inclusive facilities for AFL and cricket. These upgrades are designed to enhance user experience and grow participation.

How will this impact nearby residents?

The redevelopment aims to enhance the local area by revitalising community spaces and improving access to quality sporting facilities. Lighting, traffic and noise will be carefully considered during planning to minimise disruption.

Will there be increased traffic or noise?

Any increase in usage will be managed through the planning and design process. Traffic, lighting, and noise impacts will be assessed and mitigated where necessary as part of the development approval process.

    Can the community provide input?

Yes. Community consultation is a key part of the process. Feedback will help to inform the final master plan. You can provide feedback through an online survey, via Have Your Say or visit us at a community information session.

How can I have my say on the master plan?

Consultation is open from 15 October 2025 to 6 November 2025. You can:

    • Complete the online survey.
    • Visit us at a community information session
    • Contact the project team at admin@ala.net.au or telephone 08 8941 7009.

What will the consultation feedback be used for?

Your input will inform the final master plan, including how the precinct is used, managed, and developed over time. This ensures the project reflects community needs and expectations now and into the future.

    When will construction start?

Construction timelines for Stage 1 will be determined once the master plan is finalised. Further stages will depend on securing additional funding.

What is the long-term vision for the precinct?

To create a vibrant, inclusive and multi-sport community hub that supports grassroots sport, increases participation and meets the needs of Darwin’s growing population.
