Consultation has concluded

The NT Department of Education has engaged Deloitte Access Economics in partnership with the Northern Institute at Charles Darwin University to undertake a Review of Secondary Education in the NT (years 7–12).

A discussion paper and corresponding summary paper were released for public consultation in June 2023 (has now concluded).

Responses will shape the way the Review team understands the needs and aspirations of communities for secondary education and potential opportunities to improve delivery.

Submissions, along with research and stakeholder consultations, will inform the final report to the department.

Updates about the Review will be published on the NT Department of Education website.

Why is secondary education being reviewed?

The Department of Education is on a journey to become the most improving education system in Australia and is committed to a strong public education system where every child has access to the opportunity to engage, grow and achieve.

The Review is part of delivering on the department’s commitment through the Education NT Strategy 2021-2025 to ‘review and strengthen secondary education (Years 7–12) with a focus on increased participation, retention and completion, particularly in remote areas.’

The Review aims to design a secondary education system that is responsive to the unique and diverse delivery contexts in the NT, reflects the rich cultural diversity among learners, and provides a pathway for all students to achieve success.

This Review also builds on insights provided through consultation to develop the Education Engagement Strategy 2022-2031.
