Consultation has concluded
Thank you for your participation in the Have Your Say survey/ industry forum in 2017 on the Advertising and Activities in Northern Territory Government Road Reserves Guidelines. Additional extensive consultation was undertaken with industry, the business sector and community on how the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Environment can better manage road reserves.
Your feedback was valuable in updating the Guidelines. Overall, the stakeholder feedback had a strong focus on improving roadside amenity, reducing clutter and hazards to drivers such as distracting signage, and allowing signs and mobile vendors to operate in road reserves in safe locations through a transparent permit process.
Resolution of this complex issue has required an amendment to legislation and consideration of multiple organisations with interests in the road network to ensure a consistent approach to improving safety whilst also supporting business.
The Guidelines are now updated and available at www.nt.gov.au/roadreserves.
A 12-month moratorium will apply as at 17 February 2020 to give people time to comply with the Guidelines.
Permit approval and fees will apply as at 15 February 2021.

Government is committed to improving road safety and your comments have assisted.
