Resilient landscaping contributes to the character of an area and helps to create a unique sense of place. It brings us closer to nature which benefits our health and wellbeing. It also supports air quality, water management, biodiversity and reduces the impacts of urban heat island effect.
To capture some of these benefits, the Northern Territory Planning Scheme 2020 (NTPS) includes a variety of landscaping requirements for residential, commercial and industrial developments. It is recognised however, that landscaping in the Territory’s two distinctive climate zones can be challenging. Lands Planning are seeking to prepare a Landscaping Guideline to support and provide guidance on the landscaping provisions contained within the NTPS.
All Territorians are encouraged to have your say on how landscaping designs can be improved in response to requirements of the Northern Territory Planning Scheme 2020. Your feedback will help inform our approach in preparing a draft non-statutory landscaping guideline to make it easier for applicants, landowners and developers to address landscaping requirements of the NT Planning Scheme 2020.
The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics is seeking feedback. You can make a submission here.
Closing date for all feedback will be Friday 30 June 2023.
Submissions will be published on the ‘Have your Say’ website unless specified otherwise. Upon receiving all of the feedback, a summary of consultation feedback will be released publicly.
