The study looked at ways to improve pedestrian safety on McMillans Road near Northlakes Shopping Centre.

Previous studies at this location have highlighted safety concerns for pedestrians crossing multiple lanes of traffic.

The recommended option is a two-staged signalised pedestrian crossing as featured.

Local engineering consultant AECOM led the study which included:

  • consultation with the local community and key stakeholders
  • a review of current pedestrian and traffic movements
  • engineering considerations, and
  • a road safety audit.

    McMillans Road – Northlakes Pedestrian Crossing Study

    The Northern Territory Government has received a number of comments from the community regarding pedestrian safety and convenience in accessing the area around the Northlakes Shopping Centre and is investigating ways to improve pedestrian safety.

    We are keen to hear from all members of the community who visit or drive through this area and welcome feedback from pedestrians and motorists.

    Feedback from this community consultation will inform the preferred design solution as will the safety of pedestrians and potential impact on motorists in accordance with Australian Safety Standards.
