The Department of Mining and Energy is seeking public feedback on the proposed development of the Darwin Renewable Energy Hub, including input on the preferred site location.
About the Hub
The Northern Territory Government is exploring ways to meet growing energy demand in the Darwin-Katherine region.
The Darwin Renewable Energy Hub proposal involves the co-location of six large-scale solar farms capable of generating 180-210 megawatts of energy, alongside a battery energy storage system, all on a single site near existing network infrastructure.
By integrating multiple renewable energy generators and storage, the Darwin Renewable Energy Hub will enable maximised generation and minimised connection costs. This means reliable and clean electricity into homes and businesses connected to the grid.
The Darwin Renewable Energy Hub will deliver multiple benefits to Territorians, including placing downward pressure on wholesale electricity costs, generating economic activity and jobs in the region, supporting energy security and grid resilience and environmental benefits through avoided greenhouse gas emissions.
Location
The proposed site is 940 hectares of Crown Land located on the west side of Finn Road, indicated on below map. This is approximately 30 km south of Darwin CBD, 19 km south of Palmerston and 4 km north of Berry Springs. The site is identified for industry under the Darwin Regional Land Use Plan and Litchfield Subregional Land Use Plan.
The consultation process will allow local residents, the community, businesses and key stakeholders to provide feedback on the project and the proposed site. The final project design and final investment decision will be informed by feedback provided through this process.
Submit your feedback by using the below form before 5pm, Friday 28 February 2025.
