Update 20 September 2017 - Successful tenderer is Sunbuild Pty Ltd. See media release for more information.

The design of a new indoor netball stadium for Darwin is underway with the Federal Government contributing $8 million in funding from the Community Development Grants Programme to the project and the Northern Territory Government fast-tracking $10 million for the construction of the stadium at the Marrara sporting precinct.

It is proposed the indoor stadium incorporates four netball courts with the preferred site for the new stadium being at the Current Darwin Netball Complex land adjacent to the current 10 outdoor courts off Abala road in Marrara.

The new stadium is a significant step forward for netball in Darwin with a purpose built indoor stadium allowing Territorians to enjoy the game, comfortably, all year round.

A steering committee has been established to oversee the design phase of the new indoor stadium and includes representatives from Netball NT and the Northern Territory Government. The Committee has been tasked with generating a design that fits the purpose of the facility, provides for the future development of the sport, is capable of holding potentially national and international netball fixtures and is financially sustainable into the future.

The key features of the proposed design include:

  • four Australian standard netball courts
  • sprung Floor court surface
  • fully air-conditioned stadium
  • ample change room facilities
  • corporate facilities
  • food facilities (canteen)
  • car parking adjacent to the current Netball Complex
  • capability to host international and national netball fixtures
  • flexibility to host other events.
