The Darwin Harbour Strategy 2019 will provide a framework to promote ecologically sustainable development and foster good stewardship of our beautiful harbour to protect its environmental, cultural, recreational and economic values.
It is designed to provide policy and decision makers within government, industry, commerce and the community with guidance for the responsible management of the Darwin Harbour region.
The Strategy contains goals, objectives and actions that outline the management approach needed to maintain the harbour’s values for current and future generations.
The Strategy’s purpose is to:
Provide a shared vision for the harbour, and founding principles to underpin its stewardship.
Provide a framework for the integrated management of Darwin Harbour and its catchment.
Advocate a consistent, coordinated approach to stewardship and decision making related to resource use for the region.
Encourage stakeholders to work together and adapt their practices to ensure that values of the region are recognised and conserved for current and future generations.
Acknowledge that all Territorians have a role in stewardship of the Darwin Harbour region.
Inform thinking and decision-making with regard to activities affecting the harbour.
We have provided some questions and discussion points for which we would like your input. Your feedback will help us ensure that the strategy is inclusive and recognises the values and concerns of all stakeholders.
