The Northern Territory (NT) has 43 pharmacies across Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs which provide services like vaccination, emergency supply of medicines and provide treatments with over the counter medicines.
As the regulator of the legislation controlling the prescribing, supply and administration of medicines by all professions in the NT, the Chief Pharmacist for NT Health is supportive of the NT moving to adapt practices supported by the Pharmacy Board of Australia, Pharmacy insurers and to meet the needs and expectations of the public.
NT Health is seeking input on additional treatments that community pharmacies in the NT could offer Territorians.
For all medicines and treatments considered, pharmacists may still refer you to your GP for further review or ongoing care. Noting some conditions can be managed safely and appropriately within the pharmacy setting.
