In July 2024 the Buffel Grass Management Strategy: Central Australia 2024 – 2030 (Strategy) was developed and buffel grass was formally declared a weed under section 7(1) of the Northern Territory Weeds Management Act 2001. The Strategy recognises the diverse land use purposes of the region and aims to guide prioritisation, management objectives and actions to mitigate the negative impacts of buffel grass in Central Australia; to protect the economy, community, industry and environment from adverse impact.
Informed by the Strategy, a statutory Buffel Grass Weed Management Plan (Plan) will be developed; specifying how buffel grass will be regulated in the NT. Your contribution in developing the Plan is valued.
The draft Plan will be made available for public comment for 8 weeks.
The survey will be open until close of business 31 December 2024.
In the interests of transparency and accountability, comments will be de-identified and published, unless you request otherwise.
