Consultation starts on discussion paper to develop a Strategic Directions Planning Policy

The Northern Territory Planning Commission is encouraging Territorians to have their say on future land use planning policy in the NT.

The Strategic Directions Planning Policy will provide an overarching, high-level framework to guide strategic land use and development decisions.

NT Planning Commission Chair Dr David Ritchie encourages everyone to get involved. “This consultation is an important first step to enable the Northern Territory Planning Commission to deliver a high-level strategic planning policy document which will frame and inform all future strategic land use planning across the entire Northern Territory.

“The Planning Commission has been fortunate to have worked with the community on the development of many strategic land use plans. The discussion paper seeks to recognise and build on what the community has previously communicated, provides a background on the NT’s social, economic and environmental context and outlines some initial thoughts on future goals and measures.

“This consultation provides a chance for people to have their say on how the Territory should grow and respond to the challenges of the future. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the past and to respond proactively to the challenges of the future. I encourage everyone with an interest in the Territory’s future to contribute to the development of this policy.”
