Consultation has concluded
The Northern Territory (NT) Government wants every child in the NT to have the best start in life and gain a bright future through early learning. The Department of Education is partnering with Nous Group and Victoria University on an NT Preschool Review to understand how preschool can better support this vision.
The Review team has spoken to schools, teachers and parents in all regions of the NT. The Preschool Review Discussion paper includes information we’ve gathered at this stage.
What is preschool?
Preschool is an early childhood program delivered by a qualified teacher at a school, long day care centre or Early Learning Centre for children in the year or two before formal schooling. In the NT, all children can attend preschool from age 4, and children in very remote areas can attend from age 3.
Long day care and creche are both types of early childhood programs for young children from infancy to preschool age. These programs are often delivered in long day care centres by qualified educators.
