Driver fatigue is an important road safety issue to be managed. Fatigue reduces the ability of a person to drive safely and affects judgement, ability to react and maintain vehicle control.
The key to reducing crashes related to fatigue is to encourage motorists to stop and rest.
The following design principles were adopted to develop the strategy:
plenty of opportunities for drivers to rest
attractive and clean to encourage drivers to stop for a break
meet the needs of the all road users
sufficient parking spaces to meet current and future demand
Improving roadside rest facilities across the Northern Territory is an action in the Towards Zero Road Safety Action Plan.
The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics is seeking your valuable input to review rest facilities across the Northern Territory. Your feedback will assist in the development of the Northern Territory Rest Facilities Strategy.
