Survey Introduction
In the Northern Territory (NT), school term dates are typically set in 5-year blocks and announced 2 years in advance.
The Department of Education and Training is now inviting stakeholder feedback through public consultation on school term dates for 2028 to 2032.
The current school holiday structure of 1 week, 3 weeks, 2 weeks, 6 weeks will be retained.
We are seeking your feedback on:
- An option to align the Term 1 school holidays with Easter. If implemented, this would result in inconsistent lengths of Term 1 and subsequent terms over the five-year period:
- Term 1, 2028: 11 weeks duration
- Term 1, 2029: 9 weeks duration
- Term 1, 2030: 11 weeks duration
- Term 1, 2031: 10 weeks duration
- Term 1, 2032: 9 weeks duration.
- The preferred placement of an additional school week in years where a 41-week school year is required. This occurs irregularly to align school terms with significant calendar events and is historically placed in Term 1. Without this adjustment, the school year would gradually begin and end earlier each year.
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.
