Consultation has concluded
The draft of the revised Management Program for the Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) in the Northern Territory of Australia is now available for your comments.
The Program is a legal instrument under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 (TPWC Act). The primary objective is to ensure the ‘protection, conservation, sustainable use, control and management” of Saltwater Crocodile aligning with Part 4, subdivision 3 of the TPWC Act. It acknowledges the socio-economic value of the annual harvest of Saltwater Crocodile to the NT, as well as the very real threat this species poses to human life.
In addition to the TWPC Act, management of Saltwater Crocodiles is governed by network of interconnected Territory, National and International laws, regulations and policies.
This Management Program provides a comprehensive guide, consolidating all requirements to guarantee the safe, sustainable and legal management and use of the species. It adopts a transparent approach to engage with stakeholder effectively.
