The draft Wildlife Management Program for the Magpie Goose (Anseranas semipalmata) in the Northern Territory of Australia, 2020–2030 (the Program).
The Northern Territory has the world's largest population and major breeding areas of Magpie Geese.
The Program aims to protect and conserve the species while also allowing for its sustainable use and appropriate control where it’s causing economic damage.
The Program covers five principal objectives:
To conserve and protect Magpie Goose in its natural habitat in the Northern Territory.
To promote sound management of identified areas of habitat to ensure the survival of populations.
To ensure the sustainable use of Magpie Goose populations.
To minimise the economic loss by commercial fruit growers from goose impacts without adversely impacting the conservation of the species
To provide ongoing refinement of Magpie Goose management through timely evaluation of management prescriptions and performance.
We’ve identified a number of discussion points within the Program that we’d like your feedback on.
Closing date for the online survey is 8 November 2019.
The Program is a legal instrument under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976.
Contributions to this consultation are now closed for evaluation and review.
