Limmen Bight Marine Park extension s14 report / Public consultation
The Northern Territory Government has committed to extending the Limmen Bight Marine Park south to Rosie Creek, responding to long-standing community interest and ecological evidence. This extension would include an additional 185km2 of coastal waters comprising Territorial waters commencing from the mean low water mark and extending three nautical miles to the limit of the Territory waters from the current marine park southern boundary intersecting a direct line from the mouth of Wuraliwuntya and running adjacent to the Lorella NT Portion 1333 to intersect a direct line at the mouth of Rosie/Warrawarda Creek.
The extension will protect one of the most significant seagrass meadows in northern Australia - an essential habitat for dugongs, turtles, prawns, and fish species - while reinforcing collaborative management with Marra Traditional Owners and other stakeholders. The section 14 report outlines the ecological, cultural, heritage, and economic values of the proposed extension and seeks feedback to inform decision-making.
