Goal 1: Eradicate gamba grass Class A zone

The Weed Management Branch (WMB) will undertake a review of the existing permits that allow pre-existing gamba grass to be retained for grazing in the gamba grass Class A (eradication) zone by July 2026. (Please note that there has never been a permit requirement in the B zone as the gamba plan already contains management requirements for B zone properties). Relating to the Class A (eradication) zone, there are currently two existing permits which allow gamba to be retained for grazing in this zone. These permits have continued to be in place with annual monitoring, since gamba grass became a declared weed and the A/B zone was delineated in 2014.

What is your view on this approach you would like considered in this review?

The WMB will undertake a review of the gamba grass Class A and B zone boundary by July 2026 in accordance with Objective 1e of the Weed Management Plan Gamba Grass 2020 – 2030 to ensure the Class A zone captures areas that are free of gamba grass and where eradication is considered feasible. The objective of this review is to improve the protection of areas in the Class B management zone that are free of gamba grass.
