Phase 1 – Closed
The Northern Territory (NT) Government is committed to improving the Container Deposit Scheme (the scheme).
A discussion paper has been developed with information about proposed changes to the scheme to implement the final phase of recommendations from a 2018 independent review by Ernst & Young.
Consultation on the discussion paper was open from 8 March - 14 April 2023.
Feedback will help to inform the changes to:
expand the scope of eligible containers;
improve scheme reporting and transparency; and
improve recovery rates, refund returns and access to scheme drop off points in remote and rural communities.
What will happen to your feedback
Your feedback on the discussion paper will inform a proposal to the Northern Territory Government on how to implement the remaining recommendations from the independent review and improve the scheme for all Territorians, beverage retailers, beverage manufacturers and scheme participants.
A summary of the feedback received is now available.
