Community Justice Centre 2021 Review

Have Your Say about the future of the Community Justice Centre
The Community Justice Centre is a Northern Territory Government service that offers free community mediation services across the Territory. Over its 18-year history, the Community Justice Centre has provided thousands of Territorians with a way to work out disputes without going to court.
The Department of the Attorney-General and Justice invites you to contribute to a review of the Community Justice Centre that will help to determine the Centre’s future service functions.
The review follows a recent proposal to reduce services to only mediating court-referred personal violence matters, and to closing the Centre in Casuarina. Under this plan, civil mediation services, training and accreditation services, community peacemaking and restorative justice programs would no longer be available.
Your views are important to us. We have delayed any change to the Community Justice Centre in order to consider your feedback, and reassess the potential impact of reducing these services. By conducting the review, we seek to understand:
- What would be the impact of reducing Community Justice Centre functions; and
- What opportunities may be lost with this proposal?
How to have your say
We invite you to complete the online survey or to upload a submission. You can do this as an individual, an organisation, or as someone working for a service or program.
The Short Survey for Individuals is for accredited dispute resolution practitioners, current and former Community Justice Centre mediator panel members, service-users and community members who are interested in dispute resolution and peacemaking.
The Short Survey for Organisations is for government services, justice agencies and community organisations, as well as people working in justice or related services.
Submissions via this website close 10 December 2021.
If you would like to arrange an alternative way to provide feedback, or require further information, please contact Melinda Tew, Acting Director on 08 8985 8685 or by email melinda.tew@nt.gov.au.
