Consultation has concluded

The Government is seeking the community’s input into shaping the experiences available in Casuarina Coastal Reserve in the future.

Since the recent redevelopment and upgrade of the Casuarina Coastal Reserve the Department of Tourism and Culture has received approaches from local small business operators seeking opportunities to establish small scale, and temporary “pop-up” style enterprises. These small businesses could for example be mobile food vans, beach equipment hire or a pop-up café.

The potential for development of commercial opportunities which must be of a high standard and compatible with the Reserve’s character and values is outlined in the Casuarina Coastal Reserve Management Plan 2016

The management plan sets out how the Reserve will be managed into the future and details a vision for visitor experiences at the Reserve:

  • a Reserve where locals and visitors can enjoy the beach or the bush beside a bustling capital city;
  • a Reserve providing a high standard of facilities enhancing visitors’ recreational activities, experiences and appreciation of the natural and cultural values; and
  • a Reserve providing a diverse range of recreation activities while nurturing a natural environment.

We want to know:

  • How you currently use Casuarina Coastal Reserve
  • What you love about it
  • Whether you have any concerns about it
  • The type of small-scale commercial activity you would consider as appropriate in the Reserve
  • The type of small-scale commercial activity you would consider as inappropriate in the Reserve, and why
